The Dream Team: Espresso and Ice Cream

Sleepy and lazy days came quickly this year. I have never felt more unmotivated with finals just around the next turn. My days consist of studying, being homesick and drinking way too much coffee. 

One of the most exciting things about how the year has flown by is that it’s getting closer to the holidays which means great food, family, and friends. But now it feels like I’m a little unprepared for it all. It seems like I’ve been in a slump with homesickness mixed with no motivation and a dash of just wanting to watch movies all day. 

However, with all that being said, two things that can always get me in a better mood is ice cream and espresso... really doesn’t matter what time of day or night it is. I’m most likely thinking about one or the other or maybe even both. 

At Mike’s Ice Cream and Coffee Bar downtown Nashville, they are able to combine to of my loves: ice cream and espresso. 

While we lived out in Washington, we would always stop at different coffee places and get coffee shakes, the equivalent to a milkshake with espresso in it. Then when we lived to Southern Illinois, there is not a lot or hardly any coffee stands around. So we began to improvise and make our own espresso shakes at home.

Well today, in the mists of my homesickness and tiredness of doing homework. I decided it was time for me to try and track down a coffee shake in Nashville. That is when I came across Mike’s. 

At Mike’s, they have 36 flavors of ice cream. Anything ranging from standard vanilla and chocolate to caramel cone and cake batter. I 100% will be going back to try all of there ice cream flavors. But today I was on a strict mission: to find an espresso shake. And I am so over the moon to announce that I found it. 

I got the frozen caramel macchiato espresso milkshake. All 24 oz of ice cream with espresso was absolutely delicious and was probably all gone in about 20 minutes. I did not realize how in love I was with my espresso shake till I looked down and realized that it was all gone. 

The espresso shake was so smooth and super creamy with the subtle espresso taste that stays with you for just a hot second. It’s so tasty that you just keep drinking it till you are startled by the sound of nothing but air coming up your straw.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that I will have to fight the urge from visiting Mike’s every day for another shake!
