Truly in Hog Heaven
I was in hog heaven literally and figuratively while eating some home-cooked barbecue at Hog Heaven.
Since I can remember barbecue sauce has always been my go-to for just about anything and everything, chicken nuggets, fries, even on top of cheeseburgers. So naturally, I was pumped when I heard that Hog Heaven is known for their homemade barbecue sauce.
Nothing like an artsy picture of a pulled pork sandwich and a wall mural
Hog Heaven is the perfect place to go if you want to feel like a local. It’s a little white brick building with a screened-in porch on the front, with the cutest wall mural on the side. They are located a stone’s throw away from Centennial Park. Literally, you could stand at their front entrance and throw a rock and it would more than likely land in the park.
The whole atmosphere of Hog Heaven is down to the roots of what homemade barbecue is, simple and great tasting.
I got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of coleslaw to put on my sandwich. You get the choice of white, mild or hot barbecue sauce to either put on your sandwich or on the side. I got the white and hot barbecue sauces on the side so I could try both. Both were amazing and highly recommend getting both and mixing them together.
The pulled pork was so tender and had great flavor without any added sauce. But after adding the coleslaw and a mix of white and hot barbecue sauces on my sandwich, it's safe to say I was in love.
According to Webster’s dictionary,
Inhaled means
Draw in by breathing
To take in eagerly or greedily
I’m pretty sure that definition number two is exactly what I did when I messily ate my pulled pork sandwich.
The full meal deal! A pulled pork sandwich, coleslaw, white and hot barbecue sauce and of course a piece of chocolate cobbler for dessert.
As if getting great homemade barbecue and sauces isn't enough, Hog Heaven also makes their own homemade desserts.
So naturally, I had to try one of the desserts too. I got the chocolate cobbler… wow! If you are a chocolate lover like I am, this is right up your alley. The cobbler is served warm making it so soft and fluffy with a mix of hot fudge on top. I’m pretty sure it was made in heaven.
I can’t wait for my next adventure to Centennial Park for my next meal at Hog Heaven!
Make sure you come back to read about the interview I had with co-owner of Hog Heaven, Katy Garner and how at Hog Heaven “you’re more than just a sandwich”.
